Report: Suns fire head coach Frank Vogel after 1st-round playoff sweep, eyeing Mike Budenholzer as replacement

The Phoenix Suns are moving on from head coach Frank Vogel.

The Suns, after a sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs earlier this spring, fired Vogel on Thursday afternoon, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

ESPN Sources: The Phoenix Suns dismissed coach Frank Vogel. The Suns — who won 49 regular-season games with league’s third-highest payroll and tax — were swept in opening-round series to Timberwolves. Mike Budenholzer will be prominent part of search. pic.twitter.com/SDTRkXxkrG

The ouster culminated a disappointing season that saw a Suns roster that added Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in the last two seasons finish sixth in the Western Conference before failing to secure a playoff victory.
